The USDA–NRCS has announced that farmers and landowners can apply NOW for FY26 grant funding. Contact your nearest NRCS office to inquire about grant programs and submit your application for FY26 funding by 11/21/25*. Programs and funding vary depending on your location. The most relevant NRCS programs for Central California include:
How It Works:
NRCS works one-on-one with producers to develop a conservation plan that outlines conservation practices and activities to help solve on-farm resource issues. Producers implement practices and activities in their conservation plan that can lead to cleaner water and air, healthier soil, and better wildlife habitat, all while improving their agricultural operations. EQIP helps producers make conservation work for them. Financial assistance for practices may be available through EQIP. Some producers may also qualify for an advance payment.
Important Dates:
NRCS accepts producer applications for its conservation programs year-round, but producers interested in funding during the current fiscal year (FY26) should apply by their state’s ranking dates
- NRCS EQIP Application Deadline for FY26: 11/21/25*
- NRCS EQIP Application Ranking Dates for California: 11/21/25-1/30/26*
* Note: As of Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the Federal government shutdown may affect deadline dates and funding given most USDA and NRCS offices are closed until further notice.
Although EQIP is most relevant for producers, other NRCS and Farm Bill programs can also provide funding. Make sure you ask your local NRCS office about other applicable grant programs.
